ricky with treat

RickyRicky

Ricky is a sweet male red tricolor border collie, we think under 2 years old. He came into our rescue a little shy and fearful of new things, so we think he was not well socialized. However, he is making great improvement in his foster home, with a lot of training and good experiences provided by his foster mom.

Whatever Ricky's background he loves people. He adores his foster parents and is totally devoted to them. He is easy to train, as he is so willing. He loves his evening walks with mom and morning jog with dad. He enjoys riding in the car.   Ricky gets along well with cats and with most dogs--he has some favorite dog friends that he sees on his daily walks. At this point, we think he would enjoy most being an only dog, because he wants the company of his person so much..

Ricky had a hip injury that looks like it might have been caused by a car or a kick. While in foster care, however, Ricky has been jogging a mile or two each day with his foster dad and now his hip is in great shape and no longer causes him pain. Ricky is able to be as active as any dog, but does not jump up on people or the furntiure. What a deal!

Ricky would be perfect for someone who wants a totally devoted dog. Normally border collies need a job to be happy, but Ricky wants his job to be following a person around and getting petted. He is quiet and calm at home and is easy to walk. He probably needs more training and socialization, but he's been improving steadily in foster care. He should get regular exercise to maintain the muscles supporting his injured hip so that his pain does not return. Being a lap dog and house pet, when he is not out jogging, would be a perfect match for Ricky!
